Converting a string into a DateTime object
I have a string date from the user. I want to know how to convert this to a DateTime object (the user may enter anything, so I need to make sure it is a valid date, not just assume it is).
I can use DateTime.TryParse and see if it was valid, but what should I do if it wasn't? Should I just throw an exception?

The DateTime constructor will try to parse the string.
string s = "01/01/1980";
DateTime dt = DateTime.Parse(s);
If you want to catch the exceptions, you need to add a check on the Format property:
