Create a family survey on Google Forms. Be sure to collect more information than just the basic contact info. 
Ask them:
their communication preferences (language, mode, time, etc)
to describe their child (learning styles, future goals, triggers) 
 to identify their personal occupation, talents and/or hobbies
The more information you have the better equipped you will be to build active partnerships. You never know when a child's family may be able to serve as a resource in your classroom by sharing their expertise or experience.
