Victoria McIntosh (Biktoryias) is an Anishinaabe Grandmother, artist, and educator. We proudly welcome her as our (remote) visiting artist at Dakota Collegiate. Our project is called ‘Stitching and Story’ and is a collaborative quilt that honours and memorializes Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirited People. 
Each student is creating a square with an image on it. Ms. McIntosh is teaching us about the ‘crumb quilts’ her Kookum (grandmother) taught her to make, using up scraps to create something new, and telling stories while working.
We are thinking about a blanket as a form of protection. When we are born, we are wrapped in a blanket, and we are safe. What makes you feel safe? What makes you feel strong?   
We are collecting fabric with stories from our school community, from people’s family members (mothers, grandmothers, etc) and from individuals with well wishes for this project. These histories and meanings will be woven into our quilt honouring MMIWG2S.
