Eleanor Marie Robertson was born on October 10, 1950 in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA, to a family of Irish descent, the youngest of five children. She married Ronald Aufdem-Brink in 1968 and they had two sons: Dan and Jason. In 1979, during a snowstorm, she began writing. Eleanor wrote a story for Love Melodies magazine under the alias Jill March. Several manuscripts and rejections later, her first romance novel, Irish Thoroughbred, was published in 1981 under the name Nora Roberts.
