Empowering People and Communities Taskforce 21 June 2018

The Taskforce is a partnership initiative led by NHS England involving three interrelated ambitions: (i) People – Population engagement, participation and co-production in supporting the future delivery of services and policy; (ii) Patients – The role of insight and learning from the experience of patients, families and carers in improving the quality and outcomes of services; (iii) Voluntary Sector – Our partnerships with voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector organisations to both add value to our work and deliver a wider range of services that are holistic in nature and focus on wellbeing There will be six meetings during 2017 and 2018, each looking at a different health and care issue. Once again, we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who took the time out of their evenings to share their views and experiences. Key themes from this chat include: -  Improving communication and listening skills  - Treating people as a whole person, asking ‘what matters to you’, rather than ‘what’s the matter with you’? - Achieving consistency across services - Helping people to manage their own care - Not making assumptions about people, their relationships, their abilities - Taking an 'asset-based' approach - looking at what people can do and supporting them to achieve that, rather than focusing on what people are unable to do.
