Mental health has become a major factor, especially for NCAA athletes

Athletes and activists have argued that the suicide fatalities are only a mirror of the larger, well-documented mental health epidemic affecting all young people. They believe that the problems experienced by athletes are unique from those faced by other college students: long hours, physical injuries, and social circles that are restricted to teams and might vanish due to injury or bad performance.
