What is a consumer? The fashion consumer is basically the person that ultimately purchases or utilizes the garment or fashion accessory. The consumer is also often referenced as a shopper. The consumers of fashion (shoppers) are different than a fashion industry buyer of clothing. What types of goods can a consumer use? A convenience product is a type of good a consumer can use, the term convenience is used when the product is brought frequently and in a routine. There are three main types of consumer goods: durable goods, nondurable goods, and services. Durable goods are consumer goods that have a long-life span (e.g. 3+ years) and are used over time. Examples include bicycles and refrigerators. What three factors influence consumer choice? • Reviews- A consumer is more likely to buy a product if the brand/ product Reviews are good and have a high amount of rating. • Market Trends- A consumer could be influenced by this as they may want to stay up to date and trendy. • Desire and Personal Motives- A consumer will be influenced by their desires and motives they may then go out and purchase what they want. What is consumerism? Consumerism is the idea that increasing consumption of goods and services purchased in the market is always a desirable goal and that a person’s wellbeing and happiness depends fundamentally on obtaining consumer goods and material possessions.
