Born in Edenton, North Carolina 
Property of a three-year-old named Mary Norcom (Her father is James Norcom) 
As further explained in the article attached below, James Norcom continuously tried to force Jacobs into sexual slavery. To avoid this, Jacobs formed a consensual relationship with a white attorney named Samuel Treadwell Sawyer. In result, Jacobs had two children; a son and a daughter. Upon finding out, Norcom was upset and sent Jacobs to his sons plantation where she would work under brutal conditions. Norcom threatened to sell Jacobs' children so she fled and hid out in her grandmothers attic for 7 years. After, she escaped to the north, calling her children and funds were raised to buy her freedom.
