Week 2: Travelling Books

Week 2 will focus on the historical impact and importance of ‘collecting’ by and for the major British and Japanese libraries. Satoko Tokunaga of Keio University and Karen Limper-Herz will tell you about many intriguing facts and stories regarding the library collections in both Japan and the UK. You will also be able to deepen your understanding of the British Library through Kristian Jensen’s talk on Antonio Panizzi. Hamish Todd and Takahiro Sasaki will look at Sir Ernest Satow’s magnificent collection of Japanese classics, which contributed a great deal to the formation of the Japanese collection currently found in the British Library.
