This book is for Photoshop 8.0 and above. However, if you find something new in Photoshop, there's a good chance that it will work on earlier versions as well, although some features may not be available. Note that the book uses the term adjustment layer when referring to the layer adjustment tool that you find in the Layers palette in the Layers panel. (See Figure 1-2.) Layer adjustment layers mask areas that are visible or exposed in a particular layer, as well as areas that are not exposed. They can change the opacity of a layer (from 1 percent visible to 100 percent visible) and control contrast, lighting, and contrast. You can use layer adjustment layers to create a variety of effects to alter the image.
  When you work in Photoshop, you can create and manipulate layers in a variety of ways, and you can manipulate different things such as shadows and highlights, color correction, and drawing. In this book, I show you the process of creating a layer mask and working with the layers adjustment panel to manipulate different parts of your image. Because the Layers panel is heavily used in this book, you should also be familiar with the Layers panel, including the following features:
  Layer Mask (Layers panel) — This control is a thin, gray line that's visible at the base of each layer in the Layers panel. It works the same way it does in any other application: You set the transparency of the masked areas (here on a layer mask) and the visibility of the unmasked areas (here, you see the background image).
  Layer Adjustment (Layers panel) — This control is a set of sliders that enable you to do a variety of changes to layers such as changing the lighting and contrast. These sliders are unlocked when you select a layer and right-click and choose Adjustment from the context menu. You can also open the Adjustment panel (Window → Adjustments) and apply the same changes to your layers.

How to install Photoshop Elements
Download from here:  If you don't know where to download Photoshop Elements from, Google it.
Open the archive and extract the archive. Create a folder where you want to install Photoshop Elements. Copy the extracted file folder into the folder you just made. Double-click on the file.
After the software is installed, you will be asked to sign in.
Using Photoshop Elements
When the software opens, you'll see the Photoshop Elements icon in the bottom left corner.
You can minimize the software by clicking on the little image in the bottom left corner, then pressing the little computer symbol (Windows) or apple logo (Mac).
To find where things are, press the little flag icon in the bottom left corner. All the icons in the application should now have a flag instead of a little computer symbol.
When you first start up the program, there are a number of default images that you can edit. You can view the complete list of available default images here.
You can import photo collections. Open the program, press Ctrl+A (Windows) or Command+A (Mac) and press the down arrow once. Select Import from
