The right way of reading information is by looking for the conclusion. When you open Encrypted, you're faced with a blank, simple interface. After that, you need to select which items you want to protect. For files, you're presented with a selection window. Here, you can pick a file for protection and a destination for the encrypted file.
This is what the text field is all about. Only typing text gets you any effect. This is a typical'shortcut' and not the way you'd expect a tool like this to work. Also, in order to protect a file you'd need to type in a very long string of characters, even with the 'password is required' message displayed.
The set up dialog is a bit more friendly, but still rather confusing. As mentioned earlier, there's no confirmation, which can be seen on the resulting file. The file is just there, so it could be anyone. This is due to the problems we had with saving and loading files.
Everything is presented in a dialog box. Here, you need to enter a password, which is supposed to protect the encrypted file. After that, a window is displayed with a green checkmark, and a set of instructions. As far as I understand, you can have several passwords at the same time, but only one of them protects the file. Therefore, no matter which password you've picked, it will only be usable for the files you have protected, and nobody else will be able to access them.
Speaking of passwords, I understand that encryption is done through a very simple algorithm. However, when looking around the internet I found that many developers do not recommend using Encrypted for critical data protection, and that's why we have added an overall rating based on the algorithm strength and usability.
