History
AutoCAD was originally created by a Canadian company named "Boring Tools". Some of the earliest known clients of AutoCAD were the district offices of New York, Detroit and Detroit-Windsor.
The first version, 1.0, was released in 1985 by Data General Corporation. In 1985, it was based on a DOS operating system. In 1987, it was released for the IBM PC platform by Autodesk, Inc. As of February 2017, AutoCAD was the most used AutoCAD program by one-time users, it is used to create 2.5 million plans and designs annually, according to the company's 2011 annual report.
On October 20, 2016, version 2016 was released with the name AutoCAD Civil 3D.
In August 2018, it was announced that Autodesk was closing its engineering division, and plans for a successor were being shelved.
Computer systems
The company's first workstation was the DEC Alpha 8200.
In 1986, they introduced their first IBM PC compatible workstation, the A1.  This was followed in 1987 with the A2 and A3 workstations. The A4 workstation was launched in 1990.
In 1987, they introduced the DSS-1, a true parallel computer with 10,000 processors.
In 1988, they launched a Unix workstation, the D6.
In 1995, they launched the  DXA6, the company's first entry in the high-performance workstation field.
