Johannes “Jan” Vermeer (1632 – 1675) is a Dutch artist who created several paintings that emphasizes the daily life scenery and how light, angles, quality, and dignity defines the details of his paintings. Vermeer started his career during the 1650s by making biblical and mythological scenes. His 36 paintings that was survived are currently in the museum that is located at The Hauge.
During his period, Vermeer is still not widely known because his creation are not that much, thus his works have been collected by local patrons. After his death, there are some connoisseurs who admired his paintings, and it was spread by the 19th century. As the time went by, a French painter-critic Étiene-Joseph-Théophile Thoré published an article that contains Vermeer works and it was widely reached the publicity. Vermeer’s popularity rises and his paintings especially the Girl with a Pearl Earring was featured in a National Gallery. And until now, his creation remains as a masterpiece.
