History
In 1982, the first version of AutoCAD was released as a desktop app running on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers. Before AutoCAD, most commercial CAD programs ran on mainframe computers or minicomputers, with each CAD operator (user) working at a separate graphics terminal. It is one of the first desktop CAD applications, with early versions available for the Apple II, MS-DOS, CP/M-80 and TRS-80, and the Apple Macintosh (including System 7 and System 8), as well as Commodore 64, MSX, Atari 8-bit family, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC and Atari ST.
AutoCAD was first distributed to owners of the Autodesk Product Support Services service. It was later also sold directly, with options including computer hard drives, monitors, keyboards, etc. AutoCAD for DOS was the primary product and Autodesk moved to making AutoCAD for DOS a free product. In the same year, in April 1982, Autodesk introduced AutoCAD PLUS (pricing $395) as an upgrade to AutoCAD for DOS. AutoCAD PLUS enabled onscreen legend creation, arc interpolation, arc marks, and dimension marks, plus an onscreen legend, offset lines, and more. AutoCAD is accessible in a scripting language (Visual LISP and AutoLISP) and Python. The Python language is installed as a tool called Python Development Toolkit (PDT). AutoCAD Visual LISP is available on a CD with AutoCAD Professional and is available to download for other AutoCAD licenses. AutoCAD Visual LISP can be used in conjunction with AutoCAD's Python Extension. There are AutoCAD Visual LISP and Python developers available for hire.
Python is available with a "development" version of AutoCAD that includes a user interface for more rapid development and testing of scripts.

Using the Converter for DXF and DXF, users can convert a DXF file to a CSV file, a CSV file to a DXF file, and other similar file conversions.
