Mastering Makerspace

Are you ready to get your students excited to come to the library? Let’s talk Makerspace! Over the past decade, the school library has rapidly changed. School librarians are working hard to articulate the critical role that a well-run library has on the development of independent information seekers (Robertson, 2019). One way librarians have proven their relevance in the school is by developing Makerspaces in their libraries. The goal of all Makerspaces is to "actively engage students in open-ended exploration and learning"(Sheila & Boone, 2018). These Makerspaces provide a space in the library where students can create, problem solve, and develop skills and talents by using their hands and minds together. Makerspaces are not just random toys and crafts. Each activity in the Makerspace is aligned with curriculum standards and can be measured through learning objectives. Get ready to wow you students, grow their minds, and excite their brains every time they enter the library.
