I Want You to Know About My Regency

Landak Regency is my regency. According to our traditional elders, word “Landak” was taken by words Land of Dayak. The majority of people here are Dayaknese. Landak regency has many cultural heritages and natural wealths. In the middle of our regency, precisely in Saham village, Sengah Temila district, there is a very old traditional house, its name is Rumah Panjang. I have been to Rumah Panjang three times. Rumah Panjang has approximately 100 meters length. If I am not mistaken, this house has been there since 1800’s. This house is inhabited by approximately 50 families.
My regency has many rivers. Because of that, Landak regency has many waterfalls too. I have been to many waterfalls here. Each waterfall and stone river has their uniqueness. One waterfall has clouds eclipse, another waterfall has 7 levels, and there is a stone river that has a nice place to swim and dive because of its clear water.
When I was a child, my father once told me a story about the Landak river. Once upon a time there was a friendship between a porcupine and elephant. One day Mr. Porcupine and his friend Mr. Elephant played hide and seek. The first turn to hide was for Mr. Porcupine. Mr. Porcupine hid in the hole. While Mr. Porcupine hid, Mr. Elephant accidentally found him in the hole and peed that hole. Then Mr. Elephant’s turn to hide. He was confused because of his big body. Didn’t think long, Mr. Elephant hid in the river and sticked out his trunk on the surface. Mr. Porcupine recognized his friend's trunk. Remember what Mr. Elephant did, he called all Porcupines and then they peed the river until Mr. Elephant drifted and never seen again. That is why this river named Landak and Elephant never seen in Kalimantan.
