THE PROPOSAL The application is for the erection of two steel framed polytunnels for the production of soft fruit and salad crops, a steel portal framed agricultural barn for the storage of tools and machinery associated with the farming enterprise and to top dress the existing dirt track to allow for better all year round access. The barn will consist of four bays and will be used for the storage of tools and equipment as well as compost, fertilizer and other chemicals all associated with the enterprise. The polytunnels will provide a protected growing environment which allows for the cultivation of a greater variety of crops over an extended growing season.  In addition, the environment in a polytunnels is much more easily controlled and this can assist in ensuring that crops are produced to a consistently high quality with regular cropping patterns. The polytunnels will also be used for propagating new fruit bushes by cultivating cuttings from existing stock. This will keep costs down as replacement bushes will not need to be brought in. It is proposed that the track will be dressed with compacted hard-core to create a weather proof access track which is suitable for year round use and prevents extensive damage to the land. An application will be submitted for a waste exemption licence to facilitate this. The site is amply suitable for this type of use and it is unlikely that the proposed buildings will have a negative impact on the appearance of the site given its position, designation as agricultural land and the relatively small scale of the development.
