Share some of your specific strengths in both the academic and professional fields. Do they overlap?
Over the years, I noticed that I had a few undiscovered talents when it came to my career of expertise in the US Army. For the past 17 years, I’ve been put in many positions that were not the norm for a typical US soldier. My trained specialty is Human Resources.
I’m currently serving in the US Army as a Chief Warrant Officer. Some of us consider ourselves to be the brains of the operation, but not the decision-makers. Others just go by the name Quiet Professionals and play the background. The skills and career path that leads to my rank and responsibility are usually just mastering administrative systems while memorizing rules, regulations, and policies. However, I’ve been placed in positions within the Special Forces community, US Embassies, Mortuary Affairs, and Civil Affairs.
One to note was having the honor to serve as a US diplomat in the US Embassy. It was there where I delt with Foreign Military Sales and Financing. This included the exchange of military training and equipment between the US and the Host Nation’s military. This required a vast amount of diplomacy and understanding of the country’s military customs and history. I was hand-selected for this position. That decision made me the youngest, lowest ranking person to ever get the job. Surprisingly, I was also the most successful in position in 15 years. In fact, I performed the job so well that I was recognized by 2 ambassadors, multiple general officers, and Host Nation officials.
Overall, that experience showed me that if I put my mind to it, I could do anything. Through this course, I hope to illustrate some of my experience and strengths within my group and written assignments.
