Type of edit
The term "edit" in general refers to a change that a user makes in a drawing.  For example, drawing a rectangle is a type of edit in AutoCAD.  More specifically, the term "edit" may have the following meanings:
 Note edit
 A user's visual change to a drawing, usually performed on the screen.  In contrast, changing a drawing's data or editing a file is a "real" change.  A "real" edit can also be a user's change of the object layer(s), materials, linetype(s) or layer(s) that are active. A "note" edit can also be a change of the paper size or on-screen zoom factor.
 Real edit
 A user's change to a drawing's data, usually occurring in a file.  A "real" edit is a kind of user change, such as:
 Adding or deleting items in the drawing, such as lines and circles
 Inserting or deleting blocks in the drawing
 Modifying the drawing's data
