Liberal Arts is one of the oldest subjects in the world, in ancient Greece it was a way to prepare men for civil service and leadership and was considered the ultimate mark of an educated person. The aim was to produce leaders who were well-rounded, virtuous, ethical, and have general knowledge of a wide range of subjects as well as a mastery of several transferable skills. Liberal Studies continues to instill the same values today and is why I chose Liberal Arts as a field of study.

The Hutchins School of Liberal Studies is coupled with Sonoma State University and is located on the Sonoma State University's campus. The program provided me with the best preparation for today’s global economy—where flexibility and innovation have taken precedence. Many careers favor candidates with a strong foundation in Liberal Arts because such individuals can think critically across disciplines, work on teams collaboratively, communicate effectively, design and interpret data, and apply knowledge in real-world settings. This is why Liberal Studies undergraduates like myself make effective leaders and innovators and is why organizations must not miss the opportunity to add one to their team.
