I work at an IB (International Baccalaureate) school which uses a student centered curriculum. Our class can be split into corner play and classroom lesson time. Here are some ways we implement a student centered approach. 
Corner Play: 
Students have some control and input over layout decisions concerning each play area. 
In corners, there's a variety of seating. There are tables and chairs, stools, mats, and cushions. 
Students choose which learning corner they want to go to each day (math, language, art, science).
There is a variety of toys and differentiation for many games. 
Class time: 
Content: during each unit of inquiry, students ask questions about areas they want to learn more about. As we learn more about these topics, students guide the learning process.
Workshops: During English reading times, students choose where they want to read around the classroom. During phonics workshop, students choose their small group and a workspace around the room. 
Students work as a whole class, in partners, in small groups, and individually. 
Learning doesn't stop in the classroom. Students are given activities to do at home with their families and in their communities. They often come back and share what they've learned to the class.
