Tools of the Trade
_Photoshop CS6 is a fantastic program with more bells and whistles than ever. I still have Photoshop CS4 and use it as well. All of my image editing is done in the CS6 version; however, I would not recommend using it if you are inexperienced. Photoshop CS4 is easy to use, although it does not have all the features of CS6. It's a good beginner's program._
Before we get into the various tools in Photoshop, I should point out that although Photoshop CS6 has many great tools to work with, it isn't a great choice if you are a beginner because of its learning curve. However, the learning curve for Photoshop CS6 is very short.
Photoshop is a really complicated program, but it doesn't have to be for you if you know the basics. That's why the majority of the books in this series are free. They will teach you the basics for free. When we get into the deeper stuff like color-management, the Mac vs. PC difference, and all the other tools, we'll cover it in depth.

This guide covers how to resize images in Photoshop Elements. It covers the basics of resizing images, with time saving tips.
Doing Image Resizing in Photoshop Elements
After you import images into the canvas, go to Image -> Image Size.
Image Size lets you resize images. Photoshop Elements will use the best fitting dimension when it resizes the image, based on the original image's resolution.
Image Size keeps the aspect ratio of the resized image to its original.
The document says you can increase the resolution by using 200 pixels for the Width and height. However, this only works with images that are less than 200 pixels wide.
Enlarge the canvas using the + and – buttons. Click the left-facing arrow in the lower-left corner of the dialog box to hide the dialog box.
Click the top-right arrow to move the image to the top-left corner of the canvas.
Click the top-left arrow to move the image to the bottom-left corner of the canvas.
Canvas Size lets you increase or decrease the size of the canvas to the desired size.
The document only describes how to keep the width and height roughly the same.
Enlarge the canvas using the + and – buttons. Click the top-left arrow to move the image to the top-left corner of the canvas.
Click the top-right arrow to move the image to the top-right corner of the canvas.
Click the bottom-right arrow to move the image to the bottom-right corner of the canvas.
Click the bottom-left arrow to move the image to the bottom-left corner of the canvas.
Click the left-facing arrow to hide the dialog box.
If you have too many options to choose from, remember that pressing Enter will snap the image to the available space.
Increasing Resolution with Pixel Recompression
The maximum dimension for an image when resized is 4000 pixels.
Adobe offers Pixel Recompression, which lets you enlarge the image to 4000 pixels and keep its original resolution.
Go to Image -> Image Size.
Click the Edit button in the lower-right corner of the dialog box.
If you choose the Pencil tool, click the top-right arrow to resize the canvas.
