The article above was released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stating that there have been reports of 2,807 EVALI (E-cigarette or Vaping product use-Associated Lung Injury) cases. Of those reports, there has been 68 established deaths.
It was discovered in 2020 that a common additive to the juice and distillant known as Vitamin E was extremely harmful to lung functioning. This is an example of a preservative that has nothing to do with nicotine that caused a fast reaction that you don't even see happen with cigarettes. It makes me wonder what other type of substances that we don't know the effects of are used in vape juices that have the potential to cause even worse long-term damage. 
In the chart below you can see the decline in hospitalization can be attributed to many known and unknown factors. It is assumed that the decline has been from the elimination of Vitamin E in vaping concentrate and also actions taken by the law enforcements.
Although there has been a decline in cases last year, vaping does not have fifty years of research like cigarettes, and teens and young adults continue to vape and keep the social norm of vaping alive on the media.
