👀 Look What We're Learning
📚 Reading
During the first few weeks of school we will read books about classroom community, all about me, growth mind set as we learn our rules, procedures and rituals. Then we will begin our Schoolwide Reading Unit- Launch  What do readers do? We are learning to build a community of readers. Readers gather as a community to learn how to read, to share ideas, to listen, and to celebrate their progress as developing readers. Students will learn what strong readers do at school and home.
📋 Fundations: Word Study-Phonics & Spelling
    Fundations Unit 1    - click the word Unit 1 for what we will be learning in Unit 1 and home practice sheets.  
📝 Writing 
Schoolwide Writing Launch Unit-We are learning what writers and illustrators do.  We started our mini unit on sentences. Please remind your child to use lowercase letters when writing unless we have a capital rule to turn a lowercase letter to an uppercase letter.  Please practice writing first and last name.

🔢 Math
We are learning what we do during math workshop! The first 20 days of math helps us to learn about our math tools, math routines and how to show our math thinking and reasoning.
We are working on adding and subtracting with in 5 fluently.   Facts to 5 practice links are in the links and resources section below.  
We are showing what we know about counting to 100 by 1, 10's and 5's.  Please practice daily. The end of year first grade standard is to 120. 
🌏 Social Studies
Our school uses Scholastic Weekly News.  September Themes- Back to School, Friendship/Caring
⚗️ Science
We are learning what is a scientist? We are learning how to ask and answer questions, use our senses and write to explain our thinking.  We will learn about our GJM Butterfly Gardens and plants our butterflies need.  We will get to know our turtles.
