Printmaking

Printmaking is a process of creating an artwork by transferring an impression of an image from one surface to another. It is not a direct process such as drawing or painting but any method that allows an artist to create a reproduction of an image by this transfer process - usually from a metal, plastic or wooden surface onto paper. Generally artists and designers would create a run of prints known as an edition. There are five main types of printmaking - • Relief (linoprint & woodcut print) • Intaglio (etching, drypoint, mezzotint) • Serigraphy (Screenprint) • Lithography (lithoprint) • Monoprint (A one off print made by painting on to a plate, adding collage or inking in a certain way)
