Early history
AutoCAD (Automatic CAD) was originally developed by the New York-based NARDAC (the name was taken from the "Nardac" cartoon dog character in George C. Scott's film Kings of the Hill). Over the years, NARDAC became part of several companies, including Intergraph, the current owner.
The NARDAC team initially included five people, three of whom were programmers, but the team grew to more than 200 people in the years that followed.
