Strath PGDE English
@strathPGDEenglishThank you for taking an interest in the PGDE English qualification at Strathclyde. We need your commitment and talent to strengthen one of the most important and challenging roles in Scottish education: English teaching. As leaders of language, literacy, and literature, you will be expected to nurture a high degree of imaginative and critical thinking in your students. In the modern context of news ethics and social media, you will lead the way in interrogating texts and language in a way that enables your students to interpret and challenge the complex sources of information and persuasion that they encounter every day. English teachers have a passion for narrative, and it will be your job to nurture a love of reading, writing, drama, film and culture in your classrooms: from Shakespeare to Shakur and Pinter to Potter! At Strathclyde, in our core English course (Curriculum & Pedagogy), we adopt a triangulated approach to English teaching, blending aspects of theory and research with practice (i.e. praxis). We take the view that teachers are always learning, and it is our aim to equip you with the critical skills that will make you a resilient and effective leader in the classroom and in wider professional contexts. This is a closed group for registered PGDE English students at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.
