Geniusmoves is a simple, but powerful, music generator application. With no complex interface, yet plenty of options, the application is ideal for beginners, to generate great-sounding tunes and scores, as well as for advanced users, to create original soundtracks for their own games.
The main window of the application is fairly simple, featuring a field to specify the length and frequency of the generated sound, a region for listening to the result, and a text field to display results, along with a scrollbar.
Underneath, you’ll find the two columns in edit mode, each represented by a small rectangular box. One handles frequency, while the other one, time.
With every frequency box, you need to specify a specific duration. This value controls the length of time the sound lasts, thus getting a hold of the tempo. With the help of its duration slider, you get to specify the length of time the sound will play. When the sound completes, you can either stop playback by clicking the button, or, if you want to keep the loop going, simply drag the slider up.
Further down, there are a number of more or less straightforward settings, like sound effects, playback volume, stereo panning, etc. There’s also an automatic scaling mode, which is designed to maintain your tempo regardless of the length of the sound, so no worries about the whole thing.
Sadly, there’s no support for volume control, and no option to save files.
Also, there’s no instruments, nor effects to be found in this particular version.
Creative potential
Geniusmoves is an old application, but it’s still in good shape. The developers are responsive, so feel free to get in touch via e-mail, if there are any issues you spot.
Great sound generators don’t come around that often, and it’s still one of the more favorable ones. If you’re looking for a simple and, at the same time, effective application, try it out. But the lack of any type of workflow, combined with the lack of instruments, might be a bit disappointing.
