History 
AutoCAD was originally developed by Steve Kirschner at Toronto’s Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) under contract to the Canadian Department of National Defense. The program was originally developed using Calligrapher as the drafting program and converted to AutoCAD after Calligrapher was purchased by the U.S. Department of Defense.
After 2.5 years, the original AutoCAD application ran its course, and was replaced by AutoCAD 2000. AutoCAD 2000 was developed at the same time as AutoCAD LT for the Apple Macintosh. AutoCAD LT is now based on AutoCAD 2002.
Kirschner was unhappy with the shortcomings of AutoCAD, and in 1983 he left his position with the Canadian Department of National Defense to form a new company called AutoDesk. The new company initially hired only 15 people, but by early 1985 had expanded to 250 employees. At the time, Kirschner believed that the Autodesk product line would become the dominant player in the CAD market. By 1988, Kirschner had made a pre-emptive strike against AutoCAD competitors, acquiring AutoDraft, a small firm specializing in stereolithography technology. AutoDesk then applied for a patent on the idea of an on-screen drafting tool. The patent was granted in 1990.
Starting in late 1994, under the guidance of Karl Wallander, AutoDesk created an automated conversion utility that could convert AutoCAD files into more usable formats. While AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT could both read and write files, they could not create new files and could not do so while connected to an external drawing program. These shortcomings have been eliminated in more recent versions of AutoCAD.
AutoDesk also bought the CAD and CAM software company SolidWorks (then based in Longmont, Colorado), integrating SolidWorks and AutoCAD to produce the application SolidWorks/AutoCAD.
AutoDesk also began a series of acquisitions, buying key competitors, including one of the first high-end CAD applications T-H Graphics in 1996.
AutoDesk continued to develop both AutoCAD and SolidWorks, and began producing the latest generation of both software products. This approach to producing multiple versions of a CAD system gave the company an edge in a crowded industry.
AutoCAD 2005 was the first version of AutoCAD to break the $100 million mark in annual revenues.

A rumor from The Verge suggests that Disney and Amazon’s original series strategy could go a little further as the two companies plan on releasing a slate of original content that features some old favorites and some new TV series.
The Verge reports that Disney has been holding meetings to discuss original content for the upcoming Disney Plus streaming service. Amazon is reportedly eager to release more content as well. If Disney Plus is successful, the two companies will take on Netflix, Hulu, and the other streaming services.
Both companies have a solid slate of shows that could work well for Disney Plus. Amazon Studios is working on a lot of projects, but among the most anticipated shows are “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “The Boys.”
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “The Boys” will reportedly debut on the service sometime in 2020. The latter is produced by “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway. “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” will come from “American Gods” director Neil Gaiman.
