Max Stafford-Clark
Max Stafford-Clark was born in 1941, he went to Trinity College Dublin, he then began his directing career when he graduated in 1966, in 1974 Max founded the influential theatre company, "joint stock" with Bill Gaskell, they worked with writers and actors. In contemporary British theatre Max directed the works of the most important writers; David Hare, Carly Churchill and Howard Brenton. From 1979 to 1993, Max was the longest serving artistic director of the Royal Court theatre. Even in the present day he continues to be the course longest serving artistic director
Max had also founded "out of joint" theatre company with Sonia Friedman, a producer, in 1933. This was an international and national touring company.
Max has directed many classic texts which include; 'The seagull", "The Recruiting Officer" and "king Lear" for the royal court. For out of joint; "the man of mode", "she stoops to conquer", "three sisters", and "Macbeth". His academic credits include and honorary doctorate from Oxford Brookes University and visiting professorships at the universities of Hertfordshire, Warwick and York. He has two books which are; 'letters to George' and 'talking stock'.
