The Athletic, the Lakers will reinforce their guards ahead of the trade deadline.

This is a natural step for the Lakers. Gabe Vincent, who was brought in last summer, has not been able to play due to injury. He was brought in with the exception of the clause, but has not been able to play. As a result, the rotation of the backcourt has collapsed. It has become difficult to simply form a guard. He wanted to bring down Astin Reeves to the bench to deploy DeAngelo Russell and Reeves as alternately as possible. Both were weak in defense, but lacked a proper ballhandler. He wanted to replace them as much as possible to lessen the burden on LeBron James. However, it was not easy. Consequently, the Lakers (as they had before) put forward James as their point guard. Cameron Redisch and other forwards played as the mainstay. Russell had ups and downs, and Reeves had limitations in playing as a complete ballhandler. He even tried to replace James and the existing guards (Russell and Reeves) as much as possible. It is urgent to reinforce guards, but it is not easy to find an alternative. ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin said the Lakers are keeping an eye on Tyres Jones of Washington and Colin Sexton of Utah. Jones is valuable in the market right now, however, and Sexton is far from the primary ballhandler the Lakers are looking for as an offensive guard. Furthermore, the Lakers wanted to trade DeJonte Murray (Atlanta) in the market. Local sources said the Lakers offered Russell, Jaylen Hood-Schiffino, and 2029 first-round tickets. However, the Atlanta Hawks did not accept his offer. Kevin O'Kearney of The Ringer said Atlanta hopes to secure multiple first-round picks for Murray. It has been reported that Atlanta requested Reeves. However, the Lakers have already nailed James, Reeves, and Anthony Davis because they cannot trade. In other words, the two sides did not easily narrow their differences, and the negotiations ultimately failed. The Lakers appear to have no intention of adding another piece to the existing conditions, but it seems difficult to change Atlanta's mind. In the end, behind the Lakers' unexpected twist this season is an inevitable factor: Vincent's injury. His injury became a significant butterfly effect, shaking the Lakers' power. As a result, it drew a fairly successful trade at this point a year ago, and despite catching most of them in the offseason, a power shift is inevitable.
