Annotated Teaching Strategies
1. Activity Centers:
Stations can be used to give students hands-on work in the classroom. Not only do students get to feel like they are truly investigating a source, this also incorporates movement into the social studies classroom which will encourage better engagement. I think that activity centers are great for introducing a unit or for letting students quickly examine a variety of sources with guiding questions.
2. Baseball Cards:
Baseball cards (or other similar concepts like the Funko Pops that Mr. Topliff brought in) are a good way for students to summarize historical figures under study. They also get to use their artistic abilities to design the cards. 
3. Bellringers: 
Bell Ringers are a good way to engage students for the lesson. This involves having students answer some deeper questions as they enter the classroom. I like that it sets an expectation for the students from the beginning of class that it will be a learning environment.
4. Anecdotes/Storytelling:
Good way to introduce content to students through engaging stories. I like to do this with Kansas or local history especially, so students can relate the content to where they live. Another idea with this is for students to come with their own anecdotes about a story they find about the unit.
5. Cooperative Groups:
Good strategy to have students work on interpersonal skills and learn the content. It is important that students are aware of the task they need to be completing and have plenty of structure within the group. After the group has had time to research, they can report out to the class. 
6. Claim/Evidence/Interpretation:
Note-taking strategy for students to analyze an argument or a historical event. I like this a lot coming from a debate background. Getting students to think about evidence and bias behind what they are reading also fosters good media literacy skills. 
7. Concept Mapping:
Concept mapping is a good way to encourage students to take notes and think thematically. This functions as a graphic organizer that lets students think deeply about each connection on the map.
8. Debates:
Debates can be in a variety of formats and serve as a good oral summative assessment. I enjoy debates a lot (obviously), and I’m confident in my ability to select good resolutions and appropriate topics. One thing to consider with debates is whether the topic is appropriate or if a discussion/dialogue would be more effective. 
9. Exhibits:
Exhibits are one of the best ways to incorporate community resources into a topic. Students are assigned or will pick out a topic at the beginning of a unit, then work on building an exhibit that has a presentation or artifact. Then, the community can be invited in to see all the historical work the students did. 
10. Simulations, Role Playing, Games: 
One of the best ways to engage students in my opinion. Lets students be engaged with the content while living in someone else's shoes. I plan to use as introductions to the content for my students.
