Precursors
In the early 1970s, Hewlett-Packard (HP) developed a system for generating engineering drawings. Known as REV, this system, based on the HP 9300 or CP6700 line of computers, ran on the HP3000 time-sharing operating system.[1] REV was a set of programs that included a text editor and a "problem solving system" that would design and build a particular drawing or model. The problem solving system had a shell called the Quest Project Manager that used a visual programming language based on the LISP programming language.[2]
