Decades after the discovery of the smallpox vaccination in Great Britain there was an organization called National Anti-Vaccination League which was founded in 1866. This is where a lot of the anti vaccination came to be because all of the people who were involve with this organization were going around spreading what was believed to be misinformation. Some of the comments that were spread around was that the vaccination cause more harm then good. Also, that vaccine was considered to be unchristian because they were putting a substance from an animal into a human. It seems the origins of this organization coming about was due in part by the Vaccination Act of 1853 that was mandatory vaccination for all children to be vaccinated by law. There was a lot of parents that felt that it was crazy to have their kids be vaccinated. Based on personal speculation, The organizations were able to convince the citizens that this vaccine was bad because a lot of the citizen were most likely uneducated on the matter and were easily manipulated into believing that this vaccine would be harmful. 
Soon enough these same Anti-Vaccination Leagues came to the United States as small pox began to spread the late 1800s early 1900s and the United States was looking to fix the problem with the vaccine. In the early 1900s the United States had asked people to vaccinate and as well pass numerous laws which were enacted to combat the virus. This turn into a whole ordeal for them because there was movements that were similar to the one in great Britain with anti vaccination
