AutoCAD, which stands for Automatic Computer-Aided Design, was created by Brian Reid and Gary Kildall. Initially developed for the Apple II computers as a way to design ships for Cetus Marine Research (Kildall's company), it was eventually licensed to Autodesk for their own use.
When Kildall founded Digital Research in 1983, Autodesk was interested in using the software for general-purpose CAD but was unable to negotiate licensing terms with his company. Instead, Kildall invented the term AutoCAD to mean "automatic computer-aided design" and began selling the concept to others as AutoCAD.
In 1984, AutoCAD began its life as a standalone software product. The first version was called AutoCAD 1.0 and was released on December 10, 1984. However, this version was the first version of AutoCAD to be released outside the Digital Research/Unified Design laboratory; before that, all Autodesk software was created in a single shared laboratory.
Kildall then released a version of AutoCAD called AutoCAD Level II, which was added to the same version number as the initial release. This version included features such as the ability to create a wireframe representation of a CAD drawing, known as an isometric drawing. The world's first interactive 3D editor, called SceneCenter, was released in this version, and was released again on the next AutoCAD version, AutoCAD Level III, which came out in October 1985.
In 1985, the name of the software product was changed from AutoCAD to AutoCAD LT, which meant "Low-cost AutoCAD", and was released on May 1, 1985. This was the first version of AutoCAD to be released for multiple platforms (instead of just Apple II computers), and was first available for MS-DOS computers. The vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) secreted by AtT-20 mouse pituitary tumor cells contains 18 amino acids with a COOH-terminal leucine, phenylalanine, isoleucine sequence. The amino acid composition of VIP from AtT-20 cells is different from that of VIP extracted from other sources. By using a specific radioimmunoassay, we found that cells derived from AtT-20 tumors secrete VIP at a rate of 1.1 fmol/10(6) cells/24 h. Exposure of AtT-20 cells to various lipopeptides resulted in a concomitant increase in VIP release. The peptides eliciting the maximum VIP release at 10(-4) M were the synthetic di- to hexapeptides containing the COOH-terminal octanoyl group with the general formula X-Y-X-Y-X-X-L-Y-Y-L-NH2, where X and Y indicate any amino acid except Pro and Gly.
