History
AutoCAD has had over 35 versions in its history, some released as new versions of AutoCAD while others as updates to previous releases.
AutoCAD was the first desktop CAD program. After developing AutoCAD as an application for the PC platform in 1982, Autodesk initially marketed AutoCAD only to architectural and engineering firms. However, by the late 1980s, AutoCAD had evolved into a robust design tool for use by architects, civil engineers, home builders, mechanical designers, and more. AutoCAD quickly became a popular choice for the rising number of small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and other small-office desktop applications for doing CAD.
AutoCAD History
1. 1982, AutoCAD is introduced in December as a new version of AutoCAD. The most noteworthy new features are a 3D spline-based construction tool and 2D boolean operations.
2. 1984, AutoCAD Micro Edition is introduced. AutoCAD Micro Edition is a version of AutoCAD that runs on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers. It has fewer features than the original version, but is easier to use.
3. 1985, the first public beta version of AutoCAD II is released, with a new feature set, 2D routing, an improved user interface, and a revised ribbon tool bar and menus. The software is touted as "the fastest and most powerful CAD system in the world."
4. 1986, AutoCAD II is officially released with a dramatically improved user interface, complete 2D support, and many improvements in the design tools. The standard user interface and tool palette remain unchanged, however, and Autodesk's new 3D tools are not yet ready for mass release.
5. 1987, AutoCAD for Windows is released for the Apple Macintosh platform. The new version is AutoCAD Version 2.x.
6. 1988, AutoCAD for Windows is released.
7. 1989, AutoCAD Version 3.x is released with 2D sheet metal, 3D drawing capabilities, 2D annotations, and the ability to draw parametric curves.
8. 1990, the first 3D viewer, 3D review, and 3D draft are released as new features.

Design Section
 An image can be attached to a section or component, appearing along with text annotations, dimension labels, points, and so on.
 The section (a.k.a. view) can be mirrored and viewed in reverse or rotated 180 degrees for a different view (a.k.a. view rotation).
 Sections can be rotated, cropped and masked.
 Sections can be cut from larger drawings, which may be set to show only one section, so that the section can be edited and saved.
 Sections can be grouped together for viewing and printing in the Print Shop.
