Short Vowels Review E and O
Spelling Words: Once assessments begin we will NOT assess on specific words. We do not want memorization. We will assess on words that apply the pattern practiced in class. Ex. When we assess on short vowels we will say a word that has one of the short vowels in it to see if they can determine the correct spelling of the word. Words assessed will be one of the words practiced in class.

How to correctly hold a pencil.
We will practice writing our letters and numbers correctly.
We will practice using all three lines on the paper for proper handwriting and neatness.
Write letters and numbers by starting at the top of the letter/number.
Capital letters are needed at the beginning of sentences.
Sentences need to end with the proper punctuation.

What is a sentence?
When we do use a period, question mark, or exclamation point?
My trick (this is a body movement activity.)  - When we say something and it is a complete thought...  If we understand it we can sit down on a spot.  (It looks like a period.)  If we are excited about something and jump up and down we can look like an excalmation mark.  If we don't understand something we can curl up and put our finger on our head.  We can look like a question mark.

🌏 Social Studies
September 17th is Constitution Day.  We will learn about how our country got started and why they needed "rules."  We will talk about the Declaration of Independance and the Pledge of Alligience.  
⚗️ Science
What is a scientist?
Eyes - We did an inpromtu science lesson this week.  As were we walkingout from lunch and walked outside for a bit, a student commented on how the sun was so bright and he couldn't see well.  I took this opportunity to teach the class about our eyes.  We went back to the room and sat with the protective dividers between us. I had them stare at their partner's eyes.  They saw how when the lights were on their pupils were small and when the lights were off their pupils were much larger.  We talked about how our eyes adjust according to the light around us.  The class had several questions about how eyes work after this quick lesson.  As such we watched a video on the parts of the eye and what they do for us.  :-)

Germs
Science Experiment - We still do not see a change with our bread samples.  Let's see what happens next week.
