An evidence based approach to physical activity. Around one in two women and a third of all men in England are damaging their health through a lack of physical activity1. It is an unsustainable situation, and one that is costing an estimated £7.4 billion a year. If current trends continue, the burden of health and social care will destabilise public services, and take a real toll on quality of life for individuals and communities.

We are working with ten housing developments to shape the health of communities, and to rethink how health and care services can be delivered. This programme offers a golden opportunity to radically rethink how we live - and takes an ambitious look at improving health through the built environment.

A collaboration of the willing to address the rising tide of inactivity is developing across sectors, political parties and at community, local and national levels. Yet resources have never been tighter and the All Parliamentary Commission on Physical Activity reported that poor measurement and evaluation of interventions illustrates the “lack [of] a coherent picture of what ‘good’ looks like”.
