ASOM DIVAS
Today is 2nd December and 2nd December is observed as the Sukapha Divas or Asom Divas. Sukapha was a great prince. He was the founder of Ahom Dynasty who ruled over this land for 600 years. This great prince Chaolung Sukapha arrived in the Brahmaputra Valley of Assam on 2nd December, 1228. Therefore 2nd December is observed as Sukapha Divas. In the year 1996, the State Govt. of Assam, on the request of Celebration Committee, 770th anniversary of Sukapha, decided to observe 2nd December every year as Asom Divas. It was greatly appreciated by all those who know that Sukapha was a person who laid the foundation of Asomiya race by integrating different castes and tribes of Assam during the period 1228-1268.
