After celebrating his twelfth birthday, Tommy Baxter's life takes on a whole new dimension. During a family outing to the beach, he is scooped up by a wave and taken to an underwater world, where he learns that his efforts to travel beyond his imagination have finally succeeded. On his return to reality, he is disappointed to learn that his twin sister, Shahida, had chosen not to share her experiences with him when she first travelled beyond her imagination. Still, Tommy wastes no time in preparing for thrilling adventures of his own, including witnessing the downfall of the Minoans, saving the crew of a spaceship, retrieving a queen’s diamonds in the guise of a musketeer, encountering a feral child in the Saharan desert, spying for MI5, being sawn in half during a magic show, teaming up with Shahida to solve a mystery, taking part in an ancient ritual in Japan, enjoying the successes and downfalls of being in a popular boy band, helping to save the world as superhero Silk Man, and visiting his home city in 2054.
