The Art and Science of Rube Goldberg Machines

Rube Goldberg (1883-1970) is an engineer, a cartoonist, and a satirist, whose work is relevant and alive today more than ever. His machines were described "as new inventions to accomplish easy, straightforward tasks through a series of convoluted steps involving chain reactions", ideally, with a great sense of humour.  Rube once described his cartoon inventions as a “symbol of man's capacity for exerting maximum effort to accomplish minimal results."  It is a joy to re-visit some of his inventions and the ones following in his footsteps. August, 2017. N.B. "All Rube Goldberg cartoons are copyright Heirs of Rube Goldberg".
