Violence continued in Sudan on Sunday as tens of thousands of protesters demanding reforms in the country's long-ruling regime poured into the streets, demonstrating against ongoing government austerity measures.

On Saturday, security forces appeared to fire on demonstrators, killing at least 12 people and injuring dozens.
The popular revolt that began three months ago was fuelled by the rising cost of living and by anger at the political elite as public anger grows in the absence of an ouster of President Omar al-Bashir.
Bashir, in power since an Islamist-backed militia overthrew long-time ruler and longtime autocrat Jaafar Nimeiri in a 1989 coup, has consistently cited his "goodwill" toward protesters as a justification for the continued violence.
The military has been struggling to find a way out of the crisis but politicians remain locked in discussions to form a new transitional government.
Opposition factions said they were close to a deal that would require Bashir to step aside.
Earlier, three of Bashir's top security advisers said the president would not step down in the face of ongoing protests.
"The president will be staying. All the political leadership, including the army, police, prosecution office and intelligence, is the political leadership. Nobody else," the officials said, adding that Bashir's cabinet has been "the main victim" of the crisis.
- 'Unbearable'
According to the official Fara news agency, Bashir has two options if he leaves the presidency, resignation or appointment of a transitional government.
Amnesty International said a deal between two camps, on which Fara was informed, would only lead to further bloodshed.
"We have been calling for a civilian-led transitional government, not a military government - the solution is not a military coup," Phillip Luther, Amnesty's researcher on the Middle East, said in Geneva.
