A beauty pageant is an event in which a number of competitors are judged in some area of physical appearance. It is a contest designed to select the most beautiful candidate, generally from the contestants of a pageant, competition, contest, etc.
While most beauty pageants focus on aesthetics, there are also beauty pageants that aim to find the "best" among the contestants; other beauty pageants focus on finding the "most beautiful" or "most talented" among contestants.
