Part Details:
The PPMScope circuit uses the microcontroller PIC16F877A running at 20MHz.
   - The PPMScope uses a 5x20MHz crystal to divide the microcontroller to 20MHz
   - Interface: The PPMScope uses the MCLR input pin on the microcontroller
       to trigger when the oscilloscope has captured the trigger signal
       - Hardware trigger frequency is 20MHz
   - Display: The 128x64 LED matrix on the PPMScope uses 8x16 data registers
       so that only one byte of data is being displayed at a time
       - 8x16 data registers can hold 16 bits of data
   - Memory: The data is stored in buffers in the PPMScope
       so that only a single time/analog pair is displayed at a time
       - The microcontroller is programmed to watch the buffer addresses
       and sequentially display the contents of the buffer
   - Clock: The PPMScope uses a 20MHz clock for the microcontroller
   - Input: The PIC16F877A has two ADC channels (a/d 0 and a/d 1)

Detection of the peak and bottom of a pulse using an Asynchronous A/D Converter (ADC).
Square Wave Analysis:
By using only one channel for the ADC, this channel is automatically selected for square wave analysis with a mode switch.
Chirp:
Continuously sweeps the ADC sampling rate from 5kHz to 400kHz in a 10ms interval.
Auto Calibration:
Note:
This only works for CMOS based oscilloscopes.
To use PPMScope on your oscilloscope without automatic calibration, you must calibrate your oscilloscope before using it with PPMScope.  Also,
You must calibrate your oscilloscope while PPMScope is in its "auto Calibrate" mode.
Auto Calibration for Oscilloscopes on the market:
You can use this calibration method for some other than CMOS based oscilloscopes, but only if your oscilloscope supports it.
The scope is adjusted to minimum sweep time with the selected sweep knob in calibration mode.  
(NOTE: This means that you can use the "auto calibration" on some analog oscilloscopes, for example a Tektronix 2022, without calibration, but not a Tektronix Oscilloscope, for example the 6203)
You need to calibrate at the same offset voltage and slew rate as when recording the scope sweep.
Auto Calibration for Oscilloscopes that do not support it:
Use the calibration method for oscilloscopes on the market that do not support auto calibration.  There are many, but know your equipment.
Manual Calibration:
Set the sweep start and stop and offset to the maximum they will go, then the sweep time is automatically adjusted to make the sweep as fast as possible.
1MHz Speed Control:
Adjust the output clock frequency of your microcontroller by moving the speed control with the PID values.  When the sweep is timed, the trigger is sent to the scope at the configured frequency. 
Setting the PID to 1 yields the maximum speed, and I use this to remove my cheap oscilloscope from the breadboard.
Measurement Range:
Set the range to maximum and zero.
Handy Manual
Set the sweep start and stop, offset and sweep time.  The sweep starts at the selected sweep start and ends at the sweep stop.
