Macon-Bibb Commission 10/17/23

The current mission of the Salvation Army came into question Tuesday night as the Macon-Bibb County Commission delayed its portion of nearly $460,000 doled out in Community Developent Block Grants. Commissioners also wanted more time to study the recommended denial of an alcohol license for Daiquiris and More, but issued a final denial for the old M&M grocery on Montpelier Avenue. They also delayed a vote on new regulations for short term vacation rentals. Concerns were raised about the Bibb Law Enforcement Center after the escape of four men accused of serious crimes. The Commission also accepted grants to beef up the District Attorney's domestic violence unit, provide search and rescue gear for firefighters and fund traffic enforcement. The county is moving forward on a $235K contract to pave the parking lots at the courthouse and shifted $50,000 to hire temporary help for the tax commissioner. The Commission also will urge the local legislative delegation to expand Medicaid coverage and honored Pilot International's 102-year history, Grady Gillis and celebrated native son Maestro Roderick Cox and after school programs UCreate Macon and Girls Dig Deeper. Here are agenda highlights from social media posts sent during the meetings.
