What purpose do these religious references have? Do they enhance or detract from the plot?
Find artwork from a well-known/established artist that illustrates a similar purpose or purposes that the religious references have in the novel. The artist can be classic or contemporary. Each team member will need to act as the museum tour guide or art appraiser and give information about the painting or artwork and how it displays a similar religious reference or references.
