Dangers of teen driving include underage drinking, distractions, and speeding. Inexperienced drivers are at a greater risk of getting into a car accident. According to Edgar Snyder and Associates, 12 percent of distracted drivers involved in fatal car accidents were ages 15-19.

“The graduated driver's license or GDL as they call it is has saved lives. Our newest inexperienced drivers are at a higher risk for accidents and so giving them restrictions as they practice driving is an important way to keep them alive and other people safe too.” Bonnie Zimmermann said.

These restrictions allow teens to drive and people to live their everyday lives without worrying about the what-ifs when it comes to accidents, both fatal and non-fatal.

Zimmermann is a physical education, health, and drivers education teacher at Glen Rock High School. She has been teaching for 19 years, and has encountered many instances, with teen driving accidents. One time her student, who she did not name, even ran into her car with their own.

Zimmermann said that her role is to “prepare them for the State written test, but also make it clear that they understand the rules of the road and common sense issues they might face when driving.”
