County Commissioners took steps to reconstruct the runway at the Downtown Macon Airport and approved bonuses for all employees during Tuesday's meetings at City Hall. The Commission authorized an agreement to pay Reeves Construction nearly $5.8 million to rebuild the runway and bring it into compliance with FAA standards for sight lines. Commissioners also accepted a $5.3 million grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation to fund the runway project with more than a million dollars in a local match. They also approved more than a half-million for consulting services from Goodwyn Mills Cawood on the airport project. About $4.1 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds will provide incentive bonuses of $2,500 for full-time county workers and $1,000 for part-time employees and $500,000 in the federal funds will help the Macon Volunteer Clinic move and expand.
