Fox McCloud is one of the leading game characters in Roblox, and as of August 2017, he is ranked as the third most popular main game character in the top 20 all-time, after Dr. Mario and Yoshi. His popularity in Roblox has been consistent since the game's launch, despite not having strong narrative basis or character development compared to the other two characters.
Fox McCloud's story begins at the beginning of the game, when the player unlocks his first playable character slot. He is a third-generation guardian who lost his parents at a young age, because of which he started to watch a movie to distract himself from the pain. Although he did not watch the whole movie, he forgot to pull the plug on the projector, and then he found himself on Cloudlaw Island, where there lived a little cloud animal, named Pigma Colada, who had recently fallen in love with one of the island's resident cloud dweller, Pigma Salsa. At first glance, he noticed that this new guy has the ability to control the clouds, as well as the ability to shoot a laser from his eyes (which creates islands that always rain and sink). Soon after, Fox comes across the player as the new cloud man, and they are recruited by the Cloud Patrol to travel up to the cloud, and rescue it.
As the player and Fox travel the world, they come across every single character's faction (Flock, Royal Army, Cloud Patrol, Cloud Hunters, and Vanguard) as they travel to Cloudlaw island, having to rescue Pigma Colada, and ultimately, the player ends up rescuing the portal guardian as well, who was being taken by the villain Pigma Nachos (a Cloudgineer). After rescuing the Guardian, the player gets a short cutscene where they get an acceleration suit that allows the player to fly around. After the short cutscene, Fox McCloud decides to go back to Cloudlaw island to make a home for himself there.
As the player continues to play the main game, they learn that, in Roblox, games can be played on a block-based world map. They will also learn that some of the easiest places to visit are called realms, portals, streeets, and oceans. Every realm has a leader (a king) who lives in the middle, who will instruct the player on their travels. Once the player finds a portal, they must traverse that realm to get to the leader.
