Welcome to the Secondary Newsletter for the penultimate week of this first Half-Term! 
 
School council and Student Leadership 
Over the past two weeks, both our Secondary School Council and Student Leadership groups have met formally for the first time. All students in Britannica have the chance to discuss items they would like to bring forward to these groups for consideration. Pupils from Years 7-10 form our School Council and students in Years 11-13 have the opportunity to be part of Student Leadership. With guidance from Mr. Trovo and Mr. Setchell appropriate actions are decided upon and issues are raised with the appropriate teams within the school. This is a great way for us to collect the opinions of our students and consider how we can shape the school in the ways they want to see. Picture below.  
 
International Discovery Day - 18th October  
Each year we come together as a school community to do something a little bit different from our normal everyday lessons and timetable during Discovery Days. Secondary staff put in a huge amount of thought and planning to make these days varied, challenging and memorable. Discovery Day 1 2024/25 is taking place at the same time as International Day in school and has a focus on local and international charities. The day also includes a visit to the International Day Food Court! Pupils can wear non-uniform or national dress. As we have four charities giving up their time to visit us next week, we are suggesting that pupils may wish to make an optional donation of around 500HUF to be split between the charities.

Year 13 and Year 1 Spray-painting collaboration  
One of the most incredible things, I think, about the Britannica School community is how pupils from across a range of different year groups work together. I sometimes see Year 12 students playing football with Year 7s, A-Level students offering subject-specific support for IGCSE students, school council meetings with pupils from all year groups discussing ideas and pupils from across all year groups competing together in our school sports teams. A fantastic example of this working together can be seen in the pictures and videos below. Gergely from Year 13 visited the Year 1 students this week to support them in spray-painting a new mural for their Key Stage 1 garden.

Friday 18th October: International Discovery Day (08:20 – 15:30)
